Spiritual aspirants are invited by Swami Rama Institute of Meditation to receive the purest form of knowledge of the meditation tradition of the great yogis of the Himalayas in the ancient and contemporary context.
1. Although there are many institutions in India and abroad introducing people into various meditation methods, the specialty of the Himalayan tradition is that in it
(a) are included hundreds of the paths leading to inner self, and
(b) the knowledge of the mutual relations and successions (systems) of these paths is integrated.
(c) a guide initiated and trained in the Himalayan tradition exactly knows which path amongst those multitudes is suitable for an aspirant according to his capacity, emotional state and the state of his subtle body.
Thus, in the Swami Rama Institute of Meditation every aspirant will gain entry into his inner self after being examined for his spiritual right.
2. Presently, the study of the scriptures like Vedas, Upanishads and Bhagavad-Gita is mainly done
(a) as texts of philosophy and doctrine
(b) on the basis of logic, grammar, lexicons, etc. (apara vidya) In the understanding of the trained guides in the Himalayan tradition,
(a) these texts were acquired in the state of samadhi,
(b) thus they are guides to the path of meditation and samadhi, and
(c) without the realization of deep meditation, their meaning cannot be comprehended.
In the Swami Rama Institute of Meditation, these texts will be taught in the context of meditation practice. For example, the Vedanta would not be taught only as text or doctrine but as the basis of Vedantic meditation, the practice of nididhyasana process.
The commentary on the Patanjali’s Yoga -sutras and Tantrik Kundalini Yoga will be given in the form of practices according to the capacity of an aspirant.
3 The yoga has now been reduced to being a physical exercise. In the commentary by Vyasa on the Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra 1.1, yoga has been defined as “Samadhi.” The meaning of samadhi has been explained by Sutra 1.2 as “chitta-vritti-nirodha”, control over the operations of the mind-field. We teach hatha yoga also in the context of meditation.
4. Around the world, the meditation practices have been taught since ancient times in various religions and spiritual traditions. This Institute will introduce its students to all these traditions so that they may teach the true form of the meditation practice to all communities and cultures throughout the world.
The decision for a candidate’s right to admission would be taken after rigorous examination of his temperament and attitudes.
The rules of residence and practice would be extremely strict as, for example, in the ancient gurukulas and in the caves of the yogins.
Knowledge of Sanskrit and English would be an added advantage. The time spent learning these languages is not included in the course schedule; students are expected to supplement their regular course studies with additional time spent to learn English and Sanskrit.
As far as possible, Mahamandaleshwar Acharya Dr. Shri Swami Veda Bharatiji will himself interview the candidates. Students residing in USA and Canada are exempted from the interview process and may apply directly to the following address: gurukulam@ahymsin.org.
To gain entry into 1-year, 3-year, 5-year, 7 and 10-year programmes of study and practice, the candidates are required to send their curriculum vitae to the above-mentioned address.
