There are wonderful ways in which the dedicated seeker can donate various existing assets to charities. These methods allow the seeker to give, and still retain a flow of income to the seeker. The donor may wish to give a gift of something such as a piece of unwanted property or unneeded securities, as an example. The donor gets an immediate tax deduction, and the charity arranges to set up a trust which ultimately sends a monthly check to the donor, and ultimately the charity gets the remainder of the asset value at the death of the donor.

The Story Of The Cow
This fine yogi had a cow he no longer wanted to care for. He thought, “Perhaps I could give my cow to my master to help provide for his mission.” There was one catch, however, and that was that he needed the cow’s milk on which to live. The solution was to donate the cow, and to have the charity send him the milk every day. Both the donor and the charity benefited from the yogi’s kindness. Sustained giving works similarly.

More about the yogi’s family... The yogi had children who did not want to care for the cow, and did not want to be in the cow business, but were looking to receive the value of the cow as their inheritance when yogi died. Our yogi learned that he could take a little of the milk money and buy a life insurance policy equaling the value of the cow and the benefit to the children at yogi’s death would arrive in a single tax-free cash payment. When they discovered this most thoughtful planning they were delighted. Everyone won, and the agent who set up the plan donated his commission.
